The Love & Joy Gospel Choir led by Nigerian pastor, now based in Liverpool, Dr Tani Omideyi certainly make a joyful noise on a set of songs mainly written be Dr Omideyi. The production is a bit rough and ready but when they launch into a joyful reggae-driven romp like "Jesus Loves Liverpool" the sheer, gutsy conviction of their message overrides the deficiencies of the arrangement, heartening to see that the choir are multi-racial too and Peter Bentley was a finalist in the Male Vocalist Of The Year competition run by the BBC in 1985. Compared with the slicker fare from the top American choirs, this might not stand up, but for those looking for musical vibrancy which clearly communicates God is doing something special in Britain's inner cities, this is recommended.
