Another rummage in the archives by the adventurous Key Records brings this little demo from the short-lived Louvre to the surface. The band were fronted by Mark Krischak (best known for his work with Lifesavors). At times reminiscent of The Cure and early U2, Louvre seemed intent on enlightening a new swathe of music fans on the merits of cross-generational listening, a welcome goal indeed. The opening track, "Masquerade", gently but persuasively pulls us into Louvre's musical journey, with a gently stomping drumbeat and soaring guitars swaying over the top. The head-nodding bass lines continue throughout the record, none more obvious than on "Manifest Destiny". Lyrically Louvre are fascinating, each track sounding more like a story than a song. A humble effort well worth resurrecting.
