Elizabeth 'Lizzy' Long was introduced to the bluegrass music world in 2007 when she joined banjo legend Earl Scruggs and foster father Little Roy Lewis on the album 'Lifetimes'. Here she releases her first album in her own right. The catchy opening title track really sets the tone for an acoustic delight. Possessed of a voice I can best describe as a cross between Emmy Lou Harris and Iris Dement and backed by plenty of fiddle and banjo, she manages to sound fresh though clearly rooted in the bluegrass traditions of the past. With the exception of the spiritual "God Is There" where we get some tasteful orchestral accompaniment, the accompaniments feature deft picking and some emotive fiddle embellishments. "Figueroa Mountain" is about as solid country as you are ever likely to hear while "Backwoods Lullaby" and "Love's A Mountain Road" are two other simply terrific offerings from an artist I am really keen to hear more of. A really fine release.
