This is another attempt by what I assume to be a semi-pro British band to get their product onto the market. Given the hurdles that are placed in the way of all British Christian bands what they have achieved does them credit. The production on the album courtesy of Dave Cooke is head and shoulders above any 'home made' tape I've come across in recent months. Keith Hammond, main songwriter/singer/mastermind, has a voice that can only be described as big. On a number of the tracks, e.g. 'Nature Of Sin", "Heart Of Darkness" and "Do You Feel Lonely", I feel he actually needs to hold back a touch as the songs are powerful enough without Keith having to go full pelt over the top. When he does tone it down as on the marvellous "Eyes Of A Child" it really hits home. That other big voice of British Christian music, Paul Field, pops up singing backing vocals, which has got to be an endorsement itself. One final thought, I would like to see the band stretch out lyrically as some of the lines feel a little like Psalms and don't slot easily in with the very competent musicianship (the saxophonist is wicked). One of the few British independent Christian tapes you wouldn't be embarrassed to play to your non-Christian friends.
