Given the cover illustration, I was expecting the same old mistakes as made by countless others (Def Leppard revisited like it wasn't bad enough last time). However, rather than being stuck in the mid -'80s, this album seems to draw its influence just a few years earlier creating more of a retro than a dated feel. The guitar sound is reminiscent of Hawkwind's 'Levitation' album or Resurrection Band's 'Colours'. Although on occasions the arrangements seem to resemble a worship band's practice night, flaws can be overlooked in favour of the good points. With some excellent guitar work throughout, songs are split between original compositions and reworked worship standards, although the militaristic theme will not be to all tastes. Sadly, this album is severely restricted by budget, sounding for every part like it was made on a shoestring: vocals seem to have lost their life, drums fail to thunder. Artists at this level need encouragement, but the price (of the CD in particular) needs to reflect this to a greater extent. Had it done so the recording could earn another couple of squares at least. However, although subverted by circumstance, it represents a much-appreciated effort, for which Leo et al do deserve our support.
