Lenny Smith started writing gospel songs during the late '60s and this album fits well into the folky sound of that era. Despite this album being a re-release, Lenny Smith continues to write new songs - up to around 180 at the last count, and as his website boldly declares "I'm not dead yet!". It is quite refreshing to hear the acoustically raw style of this re-issued album 11 years after its original release date as it contains none of the computer enhanced air-brushing that most modern CCM albums have as standard. It is rootsy and honest. This 16-track album contains his one worship classic "Our God Reigns" that has made its way through countless churches around the world over the years. Most songs are simple in melody, instrumentation and lyric. A few standout tracks would include "I See Him Dancing" as it deals with the church being the Bride of Christ which is a topic not often sung about, as well as "Beneath The Shelter Of Your Wings" that sings about God's abiding presence in life as well as death. "Deep Calls To Deep" is an album that neatly captures a period of time in the early development of the modern Christian music industry.
