Her website declares that Lauryce has over 20 years' experience in the gospel scene, both as a backing vocalist and a solo singer. This album presents 10 self-written gospel workouts. What is clearly very good is the quality of the writing, despite the genre being by nature a little formulaic. Opener "Joy" is an energetic song of praise, "Anchor Your Soul" is classy, "Tell It" is funky and sassy while "The Love Song" includes a neat call and response section with an uncredited choir. What doesn't work, I'm afraid, despite Lauryce's many years experience, is her voice. Truth is, her vocal sounds too weak, warbly and strained among the higher register notes. I would really love to hear these songs sung by another more powerful vocalist, but there's no doubting that Lauryce is a fine writer, although I have to say that I am less than convinced about her vocal prowess.
