Best known as the former lead singer with Californian Christian rock group Fear Not, this debut solo release sees Larry Worley tackle a raft of relatively familiar worship tunes. Undoubtedly taking it down a notch in comparison to his heavier band days, Worley's voice is still in great shape and he gives an assured vocal performance throughout with oodles of Jon Bon Jovi-like grit and passion. As a result, Worley succeeds in making each song his own with covers of Phil Wickham's "This Is Amazing Grace", Chris Tomlin's "Amazing Love" and Matt Redman's "Let My Words Be Few" sounding fresh despite having been recorded too often in recent years. Keeping things simple, Worley and crew employ a straightforward bass, drums and electric guitar approach that does the job perfectly and all involved often improve on the original - the insertion of a guitar solo to break up the monotony of that unimaginative and seemingly never-ending "to your heart" bridge on Hillsongs' "Lead Me To The Cross" being a case in point. Elsewhere, arguably less exposed numbers like Big Daddy Weave's "Redeemed" and "Bring The Rain" by MercyMe get the chance to shine on this expertly-executed labour of love.
