Reviewed by Tony May An unattractive prospect looms at first glance, well used material of the "What A Friend", "Old Rugged Cross", "Amazing Grace", "Holy, Holy, Holy", "Sweet Hour Of Prayer" and "In The Garden" ilk, rendered on solo piano. I mean, it's time-honoured stuff, but how many albums have travelled this path through the years? Little clusters of almost equally familiar chorus and hymn medleys make the odds on maintaining listener interest minimal. The Steinway piano has a very pure tone and beautiful acoustics, but Dalton attempts little beyond the obvious, seemingly having, on this occasion, little sense of adventure. That's presumably deliberate policy which I can understand, but here it results in music where interest simply evaporates.
