Even though as a reviewer I find EMI CMG's endless series of Open Mic Karaoke albums pretty dull listening I can understand the thinking which brings backing tracks for CCM stars like Stacie Orrico, ZOEgirl and Jump5 to the general public. No doubt there are sufficient would-be singers in the Church for whom the Open Mic albums are a useful stepping stone to getting started in church hall concerts. Having said all that, it's hard to believe there's a big market for this item. Kutless are a hard rock band and really not the kind of act likely to pull in punters in the karaoke field. The two songs, "Your Touch" and "Run", from 2002's 'Kutless' debut are both excellent, pumping rock and made it to the CR radio playlist though the two songs from 2003's 'Sea Of Faces' album have been less carefully chosen. But that's an irrelevance really. There are plenty of young men already miming air guitar to the full Kutless albums. I doubt whether they'd be drawn to the mixes without vocals offered here.
