Kimberly and Alberto Rivera's 'The Longing' is another segment in their by now extensive back-catalogue of spontaneous worship sessions. While I'm not convinced that jettisoning a more focussed approach to songwriting is devotionally superior in any sense, this couple's project is undeniably powerful. Kimberly's voice never falters no matter how high it peaks, and her improvised lyrics quake with conviction and strength. The keys are her main instrumental support, and together they swell to produce a theatrical atmosphere that permeates the entire wholly fluent, hour long period of worship. Unless you're got the CD case or your media player in front of you, you won't be noticing the track changes. And therein lies the greatest strength and weakness of the record. Listen to it one time and you may be transported to a realm of divine meditation, but at another instance, you may end up tired by its lack of direction and structure. Safe to say it's a record you "have to be in the mood for", but it's an experience worth having, even if only a few times.

“The Longing was recorded live at the “Sound of Heaven on Earth” Conference in Brentwood, Tennessee.
This album contains an array of passionate spontaneous songs and corporate expressions of love and awe for our sweet Jesus.
There are also many instrumental moments were we simply basked in His beautiful Presence.
May your soul find rest as your spirit soars to higher grounds in the light of His presence!!”
