Sizzling acoustic country full of savoury roots sounds, high on authenticity and gritty dirt road essence. Welch inhabits the same territory as such notables as Steve Earle and John Prine, the potent stuff that even country music haters can happily relate to. The stellar backing crew include Tammy Rogers on fiddle, vocals, mandolin and viola (checked out her recently reviewed CD yet?), the Fairfield Four gospel quartet and the wonderful Fats Kaplan playing most things you care to mention. Welch's own voice and guitar output is dynamic, a totally magnetic communicator. "A Feast Of Bread And Water", "Troublesome Times" and "One Way Rider" are personal favourites with the simple gospel song "I Feel Fine Today" riding high in the excellence stakes too. Rich music incorporating many roots influences and high on musical protein.
