This is a strong third album from relative newcomer Carnali, with Rebecca St James (or even early Alanis Morrisette) being the obvious point of reference. Stylisitically, Kathleen and her production team, headed by Ian Eskelin, pitch 'Dangerous Prayer' firmly in the shouty-but-catchy girl rock category. Apart from the lead vocals, this isn't a million miles away from Eskelin's own All Star United offerings. Chiming yet powerful guitars, melodious keyboards and powerful drums, and the (very) occasional Eskelin backing vocal, all combine to supercharge 10 tracks on the theme of uncompromising commitment to Christ in the highs and lows of daily living. For example, opener "I'm Just Gonna Praise" encourages making a decision to praise God even in the face of our troubles, the title track bravely invites God to do "Whatever it takes/Bring me to my end/So I'm desperate for you/Amen", and songs like "Carry Me" and "Rejoice" are about exactly what you'd think they're about! Here are fine anthems for Soul Surviving girls (and boys) growing in the faith, punchy songs that don't outstay their welcome and make their point with gusto.
