Kara grew up in Canada before moving to the UK. She has not been one to let the grass grow under her feet having formed with her slam poet husband Joshua Luke Smith the label Orphan No More, seeking to develop new artists. In addition Kara has become a certified councillor. The result is a songwriter who presents an honest approach to songwriting combined with poetry. The opener "Keeping On" contains a spoken piece which fits well with the song - no mean feat! Vocally comparisons with Laura Mvula and Lianne La Havas can be easily made. The track "I Like The Way" is an outstanding example combining a simple beat with beautiful encouraging vocals and an overall engaging approach. Kara is an artist not afraid to cross boundaries and this debut EP keeps the listener involved. I look forward to hearing more.
