Jules is an important-behind-the-scenes figure in the London gospel arena and it's surprising that it's taken 11 years of recording before releasing 'Imagine', her debut full length album. Here her rich, soulful vocals work really well over electronic pop rhythms. Using her own life experiences to inform her lyrics, Jules explores everything from the preciousness of friendship through to how to overcome mental health battles. Said Jules, "Each song is a reminder to myself for how to keep healthy in my mind. Whether it be my self-talk, rest, letting go of fear or staying connected to friends. They are God's words to me." Her upbeat sound has you singing along and agreeing to truth in tracks such as "Troubles" and "Fixed". A surprising yet welcome interlude occurs halfway with the title track, as Jules speaks in almost prayer form and the listener is transported to a holy church moment. "Remember", which was inspired by poet Maya Angelou and co-written with Bianca Rose, has the melody stripped back to the simple notes of a piano and the clarity of Jules' vocals and lyrics, ending the album with complete purity. This set has been a long time coming but it has been worth the wait.
