One thing that annoys me about guitar collections is that they all trot out the same old standards and this album is no exception. Recorded in Sonderho church in Denmark for its natural acoustics, Bjorslev's recording includes Albeniz' "Asturias" along with pieces by Sor, Murcia and Narvaez. The rather harsh tone that Bjorslev produces throughout does not feel in keeping with the inately romantic style of the pieces on the disc and I found his interpretation of most of the works rather heavy handed and lacking in emotion. Technically the Dane produces the goods, handling even the most difficult passages with good phrasing and clarity. On the whole though the recording lacks (in my opinion) soul.
