Three songs from a newcomer to Christian music. To quote Jon's own description of the songs: '"Torn Apart" - written in a hotel room in Germany and about depression; "The Next Exciting Episode" - having encountered Jesus, I want to get to know Him; "To Take Her Place" - for my friend Ruth who died in a car crash.' You'll have gathered that there's serious intent here, borne out by Jon's plaintive, emotional vocal style and sparse acoustic guitar technique. This is classic singer/songwriter territory; an extra instrument or two, maybe, would have added some sparkle and it all borders occasionally on the obvious, but a worthwhile enough debut really.
