Jon Buller is not a name, methinks, much known by the average Joe CCM Punter in the UK, unless he listens to UCB Europe, where Jon’s 1998 album ‘Sinner And The Saint’ receives regular airplay. The mood of that opus was decidedly Celtic; this, in contrast, is poppy, rocky and quirky, with chunky guitar riffs, plenty of drums (broken and otherwise), brass and strings, some serious rappin’, a children’s choir (in tune, PTL) and samples, even (I kid you not) one of Mahatma Gandhi!! Eclectic or what? Running time is very generous at nearly 57 minutes, and investigation of the song lyrics on Jon’s website www.jonbuller.com reveals thoughtful reflections on Christian things and how they impact our lives – no shallow happy-clappy stuff here. Well worth investigating if you prefer music that makes you think.
