'Innocent' is the debut solo EP from Johnny Flores (aka "JohnnyBoy"), frontman of Californian Christian indie punk band The Way. This set of songs is basically one man and his guitar; the sound totally stripped back for a raw and intimate acoustic vibe. The first three songs - "Looking Back", "The Coming Storm" and "Human Nature" - offer the same type of sound and theme; Johnny's clear, heartfelt vocals crying out for God's help in his everyday struggle with self and in the battle between good and evil. The lyrics are honest and relatable with loads of room being left for the guitar to breathe. "Innocent" is the EP highlight, the pace picking up and percussive elements brought in to add much-needed sonic variation on a song of redemption found in God. "More And More" rounds the EP off nicely with a prayer of dependence on God over a sparse guitar background with finger-click effects. JohnnyBoy's sound is gutsy and engaging and there no doubting Mr Flores' sincerity.
