If you know John Reuben, you'll appreciate his latest release, a project that is effectively a Best Of, dating right back to his first album proper, 'Are We There Yet' from 2000. If you don't know this idiosyncratic rapper, this compilation will give you an insight into his uniquely talented sound that fuses some deep thoughts with a really comical and insightful edge. Choosing standout songs from a best of album is a tricky exercise. "Do Not" is a personal favourite as Reuben cries out to be allowed to express himself and his faith in his own way. A track that sums up much of the abilities and fun of the MC has to be "Doin" mixing challenge, a pulsating beat, scratching and a host of funny and self-deprecating lyrics. all combined with a very catchy hook. The album doesn't take a chronological tracklisting but moves across his early albums. "Nuisance" with Matthew Thiessen of Relient K is another standout with a guitar-driven pop rock feel, other similar tracks being the rapcore "Out Of Control" and guitar-based "All I Have". Some songs are more self-reflective, like "Hindsight" and even the enjoyable groove with Toby Mac.
