Without vision, the people perish. That's what the Bible teaches and this collection of songs from singer/songwriter John Heavens seeks to keep you focused on Jesus and allow him to keep your life on track. A good sentiment, and so it's unfortunate that the songs on 'Back To The Vision' all sound like they were recorded back in the 70s. Don't know if ifs the arrangements or the earnest songwriting styles that leaves these songs sounding so out of place in a new century but it's hard to get past those limitations. This is unfortunate because some of the songs have a lot to say. "All Right Again" speaks powerfully of the redemptive power of God to minister to us in the low times. "This Friend Of Mine" introduces Jesus to someone who is lost and desperately needs help. However the overall impact of the album is that this is too ordinary to make an impact. Not sure about 'Back To The Vision', I suspect John Heavens needs to go back to the drawing board and design his songs with a more up to date sound.
