Wow, this felt like a real trip down memory lane for me even though this is a new CD! There was a time when nearly all Christian music sounded like Liverpool-based singer/songwriter Joe Walters. But that was back in the '70s when this kind of singer/songwriter stuff was in vogue in the mainstream. Not blessed with a beautiful voice but definitely blessed with songwriting talent, 'Naked & Barefoot' really is a mixed bag. There are testimony songs, some songs that illuminate Scripture and the poignant "Sarah's Lament", written for an aborted child. There are a couple of acapella songs like the hymn-like title track and the folksy "Salvation Shanty". Unfortunately, though there is good songwriting here, nice gentle production and direct lyrics that communicate clearly, the whole thing is spoilt by Joe's rather warbling voice.
