Jimmy Sisco is a US Marines veteran and creator of solo project Platoon 1107 (named after his graduating platoon in Marine boot camp. This release is in Thumper Punk's ongoing series of acoustic EPs. It opens with "Son Of The Wind", a folk-influenced ballad that to me has wistful echoes of Donovan. It also has a feeling of social disconnect that reminds me of Ralph McTell's 'Streets Of London' but is not as epic but it does have a sense of journeying towards the Divine. "The Book Of Haggai Chapter 1" is chapter one verses one to 13 (often known as a call to build the house of the Lord) of Haggai spoken with a haunting back guitar line that echoes the words. I take it as a powerful reminder that we as Christians have a duty to build God's Kingdom here on earth. "The Book Of Haggai Chapter 2" is set to an ethereal guitar melody but this time chapter two verses one to 23. This is a formidable invocation of the fact we must place all our trust in the Lord, that all glory and power is his and that we must always strive to do his will rather than our own and that is our hope of Salvation. These two tracks although deceptively simple are deeply evocative.
