Few indeed are the Christian singer/songwriters whose independent albums get rave reviews in Q magazine, but then Devon's Jim Jones is no standard, bedroom-muse songsmith, but an exceptional crafter of songs which often feature profound insights into the human condition. If you've been a long time listener to Cross Rhythms radio you will know his work from when he fronted the bands Carbon14 and Small Town Mentality. But it's this set which is possibly Jim's best work so far. With a few friends providing rhythmic textures (I love Will Greeves' deft touch on the cajon drums bringing an Afro-Peruvian flavour to a couple of tracks while Dave Little's work on the Juno 6 is also a delight) but really it's Jim's winsome guitar stylings and smoky voice which rightly take centre stage. My vote for the best singer/songwriter album of the year. I'm kicking myself that I missed him at last year's Greenbelt!
