A little poking around on the web reveals that Jene Caster didn't have the most straightforward of starts to a musical career. Put into this context, 'Turn Faith To Love' can be considered an achievement - yet it throws the listener a curve ball of the most awkward trajectory. Its saving grace is, oddly, the fact that it is out-and-out Nashville production line; the playing, arranging and production are crisp and professional, as though the "country" demo button has been pressed on a mid-priced clavinova. Yet the plain truth is that the songs are on the twee, lyrically naïve side, and Caster's vocals are unremarkable at best. "In Your Arms" kicks things off by sounding like Keane cobbling together something suitable for Bob Harris Country, before "Lord, I Love You Too" enters a terrifying headspace in which Billy Ray Cyrus was responsible for the kid's music at Spring Harvest during the '80s. "Look" sounds like a Moldovan Eurovision entry while "Tell Me More Of You" falls sadly short of its James Taylor aspirations. The closing title track is the highlight, summarises Caster's musical mission over a backing track of second-rate Southern rock power balladry that mercifully stops short of the seven minute guitar solo looming on the horizon.
