Elsewhere on this site, Trevor Kirk has reviewed the debut EP and subsequent full length CD from Mr Bellamy and his vocalists. Like so many gospel recordings, you can't help but marvel at the quality of the singing. T C ('Triumphant in Christ'), Bellamy's backing vocalists, are an especially talented quartet of two women and two men. Bellamy himself whips up the crowd here in his native North Carolina. For me, his voice is reminiscent of Jimmy Ellis of the Trammps. However, the songs, although worthy, rarely grab you in the way the voices do. In that respect, they probably have not progressed since Trevor reviewed their earlier efforts. Bellamy and T C have acted as support act to big gospel names; one fears that their stereotypical material may well keep them as a support act.
