When he released this 2015 album through Dream Records, Jason Shepherd aka J Shep, had a vision. . . a genre of gospel pop that reaches the average man. He has written songs for different artists (among them Shirley Caeser) and has shared the stage with the likes of Marvin Sapp and the late Edwin Hawkins. 'Potential 2 Purpose' followed a number of independent releases and explored themes of faith and purpose while mixing modern gospel with pop and hip-hop. There are great musical moments - I really enjoyed "Feel Good" which has an instantly infectious and chart friendly vibe, while the testimony themed "Runaway" (featuring James Michael Lewis) is a great example of genre mixing. Other tracks such as "No Place Like Home" leans more towards traditional gospel than anything else. This is an album which is extremely listener friendly and deserved more exposure than it got.
