Anyone who's been listening to or reading Cross Rhythms will know JJ, the Tenessee-based singer/songwriter who with her husband Dave has made a series of skilfully crafted pop rock albums. 'Unto Us' is JJ's first Christmas project and contains some originals (full of a child-like wonder for the season), some renditions of carols ("O Come O Come Emmanuel", "O Little Town Of Bethlehem", "Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring") and some holiday season songs of the "I'll Be Home For Christmas" type (though thankfully avoiding mentions of the red-coated, bearded one). JJ's voice is as wonderful as ever, the production/arrangements are spot on with no sleighbell overkill, and with even the predictable choir used sparingly, there is plenty to enjoy here.
