James Bragg is the man behind Bristol's Hyperdust who have been around a good few years. 'Invention' covers drum'n'bass, chillout, funky house and trance and a DVD with VJing by James. Bragg has been performing in local clubs and also at Greenbelt while Hyperdust also lead a dance worship event called Revelation. Tony Silcock, formerly of fondly remembered Psalmistry, contributed to this project which raised my expectations. I checked out his last album on Cross Rhythms to compare, and I think he has improved. The DVD I can imagine would work well in a worship setting and it includes a variety of images of modern day Britain ranging from Bristol Zoo to London. It can get a bit tedious if you just sat and watch them. "The Journey" is perhaps the exception as this is a vocal song and includes the visuals and a guy (James or FX who is credited with vocals?) singing. The CD itself contains all the tracks of the DVD plus five more, the majority centering around chillout. Most songs have minimum lyrics except for "The Journey", which is a pretty decent song. Overall, this is good, but could be better.
