Mr Tony "Mine Of All Useful And Useless Information" Cummings tells me that this album was first released back in the mid '70s; he also tells me that Helmut is the boss of ICC. so l"d better watch what I say! Nevertheless, to be brutally honest, this is a product of its time: acoustic feel, bland arrangements, even the appearance of "singing children" (as the sleeve diplomatically puts it) and it doesn't let into the "90s at all. A reference to their appearance during the summer of '97 on Songs Of Praise perhaps gives a clue as to who this is aimed at. and if you go for simple, almost skeletal, production (whether John Pantry wants to he reminded about it is another matter) then this might appeal. I don't know if the average Songs of Praise viewer reads Cross Rhythms or vice versa. but I digress. Only one of the 10 trax can muster anything more than a gentle plod, and the just over 37 minutes' playing time is a bit stingy as well. Somewhat past its sell by date.
