Reviewed by Tom Lennie Christian worship, Mongolian style! I confess I was very keen to hear what ethnic instrumental sounds and vocal textures were employed to worship the King of Kings in this most remote of nations. Alas, my surprise, nay, disappointment, to discover on quickly snapping the disc into the CD drive that this wasn't quite as 100% authentic a Mongolian output as I had expected and hoped. For although the album title and sleeve-note lyrics are all printed in Mongolian, and indeed all songs are sung in that language, this is a thoroughly contemporary Western-style pop worship venture, main instruments being electric lead and bass guitars, keyboards and drums. What's more, all songs here are Hillsong, Australia numbers! Songs that this group of Asian worshippers found particularly appealing. And worshipful they are, for these are fine songs and the performances here are very fairly able and pleasant, making for an uplifting 54 minute worship experience. Most of the tunes are well known medium-tempo numbers (one or two are more upbeat), my favourite of which is the gorgeous Reuben Morgan penned, "You Are Holy". As to how Cross Rhythms got their hands on the disc, during a recent 15 month visit to Hong Kong, former CR reviewer Chris Tozer was handed a copy by a member of the Mongolian church concerned.
