As all rock fans know, Christian America is crazy for punk rock. (Okay, we know US punk rock is a long way from the Pistols, Clash, et al originators but what's in a name?) The fast and furious rock form with its pogo-ing rhythms and bawled vocals has spawned literally hundreds of American bands of varying quality. One of the best is Hangnail whose first self-titled BEC album caused a bit of a stir Stateside. Their follow up offers 12 songs of unrelenting energy and there's a 6-song 'acoustic album' limited edition bonus. Says the band's lead singer Mike Middleton, "We feel that our evangelistic role is in opening up minds who otherwise wouldn't give Christianity a chance." Amen to that. And where else would you hear a punk album that uses strings, bongos and even a hammered dulcimer?
