News of another live worship album emanating from a local church is probably not information likely to get regular Cross Rhythms perusers automatically reaching for their chequebooks. There has been a flood of such releases that only the most breaking-new-boundaries examples of musical inventiveness are likely to get the orders flowing in from far and wide. And this set by the worship leader from The Oaks Christian Centre, Dronfield, Sheffield could never lay claim to being particularly adventurous in the musical stakes, being in the pop/rock-tinged vein of Noel Richards, Vineyard, et al. Plus the sound isn't helped here by a rather muddy mix. But there are some good songs. The opener "Jesus.God To The Rescue" driven by Chris Jopson's drums is infectious, while "The Note Of Jesus" has an anthemic vibe and stirring lyrics that's every bit as good as the best of Vineyard material. Yes, Godfrey Birtill is a songwriter / worship leader of exceptional ability and, to judge from the free form prophetic bits caught on tape here, no little anointing. Expect to see his name cropping up in the songbooks and acetates in the years ahead.
