Even Lazarus would be proud of the musical resurrection of former Deep Purple bassist Glenn Hughes. Left for dead in a haze of drugs in the 80s, he became a Christian in 1991 and found deliverance from his addictions. Now re-energised, his first proper solo release in more than a decade finds him working with members of rock band Europe (remember The Final Countdown?). So you get rock (check out the stomping opener "Picking Up The Pieces") but Hughes was always more than just a rock performer and this album proves it. He has mixed rock, soul, funk and tinges of gospel to create an album that gets better with each play. Working in the mainstream, this is not an obviously Christian album, but the message is there. The title track is a statement of faith and "Devil In You" draws on personal experience as he addresses a drug addict, "You gotta pray boy, can't you see?" The grace of God means that after years of debauchery his amazing voice is even better than in the 70s. Hear this and welcome Glenn Hughes back from the dead.
