The thing that most appeals to me about country music is that very often it comes across as music made for the sheer enjoyment of it. Nothing struggling to be overly complex in meaning or sound, but music written and performed by people who just like it. This collection fits into this modus operandi very well, not that it’s uninteresting in lyric or in the music itself – it’s just straightforward, easy to understand and easy to relate to the heart that brought these songs forth. What you get here is simple songs of family (of which the Crabbs have a lot) and an everyday walk with God in trust and friendship – something to aspire to in this age of fast lane achievement. Style wise, the songs cover much of the country landscape from intimate songs with light accompaniment to larger more epic orchestrations, not forgetting that kind of shuffle that I defy you to not tap your toe to.
