The idea behind this release was for three Brit musos to go into a studio and attempt to write, record and produce a four track EP in just three days. Consisting of singer guitarist Ewan Jones, multi-instrumentalist Ben Munday and Andy Mort on vocals, keyboards and drums, Gaewzrd are a minimalist, progressive group in the vein of Sigur Ros. There are also elements of Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Porcupine Tree. The music is gentle and laid-back, most suited to relaxing in the evening. The tracks are quite vague with regards to lyrical meaning, especially on the title track, as the vocals count from 1 to 45. "Evolution Anarchy" is the most obvious of the tracks and is the best one for me despite some flat sounding vocals at the start. It is little errors like this that would have been ironed out with more studio time, however the imperfections add to the overall feel of the record. Gaewzrd will probably not detract much time from the members other musical pursuits, but it may well be a project that resurfaces in the future. I would certainly like to hear more tracks from this band.
