Jazz is a major component of “No Parachute” with its complex structure and its almost free form vocals from Mark Yoxon while “Trust Me” wouldn’t be out of place on a hard music sampler. Clearly then Flint are an eclectic bunch and there’s plenty of interesting rhythmic ideas with almost an emo vibe on some cuts. I’m told by Mike Rimmer that Flint were at the Grapevine festival last year and were pretty good. As and when I catch up with them I’ll take them on one side, congratulate them on an impressive debut, but point out that their handsomely designed sleeve is let down by a logo you can hardly read and the utter lack of contact information on the CD sleeve. Through such omissions The Man With The Big Cigar offering the record deal fails to phone. Anyway, if you’re looking for a band determined to find their own eclectic rhythms to wrap around their lyrics of faith and hope, check out Flint.
