This EP was born of a simple challenge: start with £100 and to figure a way of growing that figure as much as possible, in aid of the earthquake victims in Haiti. In one late night session with favours pulled in from friends Greg Schofield (guitar) and Shane Beales (piano), Liverpool-based singer/songwriter Finchley has come up with four acoustic tracks on the theme of - you guessed it - love. The tracks have a warm, organic sound and an appropriate, intimate feel and Finchley's voice is on fine form for these gentler offerings. In the songsmith's words, "It was a session that was all about capturing the moment while we performed some simple songs about love and relationships - romantic, familial, spiritual or otherwise". It's a good summation of a generous idea, competently executed, though one has to note that the 12 minutes of music on offer here are heavy on sentiment and light on hooks. I suspect the songs here are unlikely to end up on your ipod - or in the Finchley set list - too often.
