The Tribe have been a wake up call to a Church lethargic about evangelism and role models for countless thousands of young people. But strangely enough few grassroots acts have followed the Manchester musicianaries into the pop dance musical arena. And even stranger the few who do, seem to be hailing from Sheffield (eg, Purity had a surprise turntable hit on Cross Rhythms with "Inner Joy" last year). Now here's another excellent team of singing, dancing, rapping, breakdancing young people passionately taking the Gospel to today's youth. With an assured production sound from Andrew Baker, Elevation weigh in with 'Psalms From The Third Floor' which is crammed full of poptastic dance rhythms, catchy vocal hooks and raps which work surprisingly well considering their obviousness. When it all comes together, like on the infectious "In Your Arms" with both girls swapping phrases in an engaging rap. or the pumping 'Y all Ready For This' with an abrasive vocal from one of the lasses, the effect is exhilarating. Club music. Snobs may find it cheesy but for youth evangelism this will do nicely.
