This band of Edinburgh funksters have been building up quite a following in their home town and this latest album is by far their best work. One track, "Cold", is already getting major internet exposure while throughout the band show some exemplary rhythmic touches as well as an impressive ability to combine the vocals of Euan and Karen over the pulsating bass lines and socking drum patterns. So often white bands endeavouring to play funk come off second best compared with African American groups but the tracks here, with their blend of sassy rhythm and strong pop hooks, make 'Groovelution' an enjoyable musical ride from start to finish. Songs like "Feeling This Way" and "Sweet Surrender" are clearly directed towards the Lord while nowhere on this set is there the standard steamy sex lyrics which clog up so much funk R&B.
