This is the second release from a composer and instrumentalist based in Pennsylvania. Colin O'Donohoe includes percussion keyboards and turntables (yes I did say turntables!) in his repertoire. The guest musicians and choirs make for an eclectic mix of music sometimes with a feel of Taize, at others with sounds Eastern Europe and beyond. The opener "St Michael The Archangel" is full of interesting musical ideas and a good vocal from Rachel Kresge. But not every track works. Colin adds his own personal style to "Amazing Grace" which for me is a struggle and not being particularly melodious, while the high vocal from Rachel Kresge misses the mark. Some of the other solo vocals on the album are also less than impressive. The 10 songs are, as one might expect, each given over to a different saint. There is no information on the inspiration for the songs, although you can get such info from Donohoe's MySpace. Despite its adventurous spirit it has to be said that the cover artwork, Catholic subject matter and tracks interspersed with prayers in Latin and other European languages will mean that this is only likely to be accessible to a limited group of listeners.
