It takes time to get going. Iain Lovatt’s “Can You Hear” too closely resembles Redman’s “Rising Up” to make comfortable listening. But once the electronic beeps and burps (supplied I presume by the “inspirational decks” of Andy Hunter credited here) kick in and David Ruis breathes new fire into Norm Strauss’ “Not Be Shaken” one’s soul begins to stir. The back sleeve blurb reads, “Experience the passionate, relevant and very authentic worship as it happened at the Industrial Revolution youth conference held at Muskoka Woods near Toronto,” and though one may wince at the OTT prose, this does have fire a plenty and some gutsy passionate songs from worship leaders Ruis and Chris Janzen. Production is top rate too though one wonders how much of the torrid lead guitar work was added afterwards in the studio. But still, powerful worship from our Canadian brothers.
