As Graham Kendrick's erstwhile henchman, David Lyle Morris is no stranger to the world of songwriting. This latest offering contains some well written tunes, produced and mixed by the venerable Neil Costello, who also does a turn on the electric guitar. Such credentials! What I like about this album is its sense of purity - both vocally and production-wise. DLM's voice is well suited to the arrangements (and he sings better than Graham Kendrick!). The production is tight but thankfully lacks over polished gloss ladeled on so much stuff lately. Standouts worth getting into include "Revealer Of Mysteries", a gentle yet praisemongous reflection of how God uncovers his secrets to his children; "You're My Only One", a not-too-sloppy love song, easily adapted for your own loved one (ahh). "Elena" brings in the tom toms as DLM goes all-Fijian and adds a touch of paradise to the proceedings (and your chance to learn a little Fijian too!). This album has many musical flavours - some sweet, some tropical, some more traditional gentle pop. I came away from this sweet little morsel without a bitter taste in my mouth, just a nice fuzzy feeling. Verdict? Suck it and see!
