He is already known in this country by those who have discovered the delights of the Parachute Band worship album reviewed on these pages a couple of issues Back. Dave Grace's New Zealand soul pop is well structured, certainly well produced and characterised by his breathy blue eyed soul vocals. From the jazz tinged opener "That's Alright With Me" through the synth funk of "Dysfunktion" with its attempt at a cool rap style vocal delivery and the inspirational saxophone of the title song, this album certainly will have wide appeal in the adult contemporary end of things. The smooth jazzy shuffle of "Mission Bay Cruise" is reminiscent ot the lyrical feel of Chris Eaton's "Cruisin"' and again drips gorgeous sax from Steve Sherriff. Definitely music for a sunny day! "Tenderly" is as good a love song ballad as you'll hear on a Christian album this year. Funky guitars, blasts of horns, soulful girlie bvs and a kitchen sink mentality in the recording process means that this has a polished feel in the same ball park as American Bryan Duncan. Lovers of Duncan and Eaton will get off on this album since it's all about great songs presented with passion.
