Veteran British singer/songwriter Clemo, sometimes known as the Kettering Cowboy, as he battles with serious health issues has been releasing or re-releasing many recordings which he has made over the years. 'One Day At A Time' is very much a family effort, in which I include various members of Dave's close musical associates accompanying him on guitar, bass, mandolin and violin. There are three originals, the very bleak sounding "In My Darkest Hour", which really does sound like a man pouring out his soul. The other two originals are "Clinging To The Son" and a co-write with Jerry Arhelger "Walk The Talk." The other seven songs are all very well-known, including the opener "I Have Decided To Follow Jesus" with a powerfully emotive vocal. Then we have covers of much-loved oldies like Albert E Brumley's "I'll Fly Away", Marijohn Wilkin and Kris Kristofferson's "One Day At A Time" and Hank Williams' "I Saw The Light". For me a particular standout is Dave's reprise of "I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say" which is slow and features some attractive harmony. Worth investigating.
