The title of the Kettering-based singer/songwriter's latest release is self explanatory but, thankfully avoids sounding like a run of the mill pub covers band, Clemo has wisely chosen to add his own mark to this collection of well known songs. The Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive" is given a Creedence Clearwater Revival makeover whilst "I've Just Seen A Face" by the Beatles gets the grunge treatment. Occasionally, Clemo plays it straight with a convincing impersonation of Johnny Cash doing the Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt" but the success of this album lies in the little surprises that crop up throughout - a psychedelic guitar solo courtesy of Jamie Jones at the end of a courageous take on the Bangles' "Eternal Flame", for example. Interpretations of "Fire And Rain" (James Taylor) and "No Regrets" (the Walker Brothers/Tom Rush) fall short of the mark but admittedly it is nigh on impossible to match the intensity brought by the original artists to these timeless songs. On the whole, a very enjoyable release from the man they call the Kettering cowboy.
