I'm not a country music fan, so I can't say how this compares with other country-based gospellers who aren't based in Kettering. However, I really enjoyed this - the lyrics are distinctly Christian, covering tenets including repentance and personal salvation and the music is solid, if low budget. Dave Clemo's clever lyrics combine country music phraseology with Christian truths, for example in "Jesus Loved The Hell Out Of Me", and are often farseeing. "Why can't the Church forgive like Jesus?" he asks in "Lord You Forgave". Side two is much more ambient, especially those songs featuring a mostly female vocal group and draws on Dave's wide experience of different musical styles. Out of the 10 tracks on this album, my favourite is "Lord I Give Up My Pride", which ponders the insignificance of man compared to the humbling presence of God (Psalm 131) and concludes that "I Can Only Worship You".
