It's been four years since Colchester-based Dave Canning graced us with his 'Blameless Heart' album so with The Revolution Now Begun we can catch up with his thoughts and musical progression. Thematically this explores the nature of spiritual revolution and how to change society by seeing individuals change one by one in a domino effect. From."Revolution #1" which is more of a rejection of the world's revolutions, which seem to be filled with hate, through a snapshot of the most revolutionary man who ever lived, Jesus to "Revolution #2" which looks at the revolutionary aspects of true spiritual revival, lyrically the album is provoking. "Dancing In The Streets" owes a lot of its vibe to the Delirious? "Happy Song" whilst songs like "Give Me A Vision" and "I Need You" have a rootsy feel and, curiously, "Stars" employs a dance beat. Recorded on an obvious low budget, Dave has a lot of worthwhile things to say but the production values are sorely lacking so some of this ends up sounding a little dated with some horrible lead guitar sounds. All in all a bit of a shame because I like what he's trying to do.
