Old Jesus rockers never die, they just eventually re-emerge having mastered new studio technology and found a cosy place in their homes to record. Dana Angle once fronted '70s band The Way and by the sound of 'One Of Them', he hasn't lost his chops. I've often said that a lot of the more interesting Christian music being recorded globally is happening in the independent sector rather than being driven by the labels. This is certainly true of this release as Angle's considerable songwriting skills are surrounded by a variety of styles and instrumentation. From the country feel of "Come Home" to the upbeat "It Could Happen to You" which features his former bandmate, drummer Michael Fickling and the rocker "One Of Them", Angle seems to enjoy flitting from genre to genre. He's also enjoying the opportunity to play the majority of the instruments here. I like it when he peppers the ambient sound with violin or flute as he does on the moody "I Can Help You" and my favourite track on here, the vibey "The Time Is Now". Ultimately, this is a well produced independent project with songs that still carry the message he discovered back in the '70s.
