Unless you live in Cincinnati, Ohio and, even better, attend Crossroads Church there, you probably won't have heard of Crossroads Music. But you'll be hearing this rousing worship anthem on CR's regular Verticality programme and a gem it is, too. The song was apparently written as a response to the death of one of the church's senior pastors and a near fatal heart attack that struck another pastor. If that sounds all a bit heavy, wait till you hear this magnificent, faith-inspiring song. The chorus goes "Lord of the breakthrough/Your promises stand true/You haven't failed us yet" and I'm currently getting my church to start singing this. The performance by the Crossroads musos is effecting too, a simple arrangement with two male singers, with the singer on the verses carrying a world-weary sadness and the higher-octave man on the chorus exuding passion. A classic song and performance that deserves to impact churches around the globe.
